Research

On the internet, there are many websites that are interactive. Some are bad and some are good. The good websites will draw you in with graphics, videos, images and much more to try to get you to visit the website again.

The Good:
Visit Humboldt-
http://www.visithumboldt.com/
The Visit Humboldt is one of the best interactive websites on the internet. It allows for visitors to be able to explore the wonders of Humboldt county.

Humboldt, is a county in California about 270 miles from San Francisco and is located on the north coast. The county is best known for it's stunning coastal redwoods and the tallest tress in the world. The main attractions are the redwood national and state parks.
The creators allowed for the viewer to have complete control of where they want to explore after clicking the explore the magic button,  you can watch videos of amazing activities such as canoeing and  fishing, look around the specific areas which would be suitable for whatever type of getaway you are after. And these options include Adventure, Family, Relaxing and Romantic.
Each of these buttons shows a video with selected activities which would suit the individuals on the different getaways. For Example, Adventure shows videos of Canoeing and fishing, Relaxing shows small quiet towns and walks in the woods, the Family page shows days out at the beach and boat cruises and the romantic shows coves with gorgeous blue sea and horse to carriage rides through small old town America

And each video allows you to pin certain places that look interesting and attract your attention and then at the end of the video gives you more information on them places such as  directions and accommodation.

This website is very good as it is so immersive for viewers, it allows for them to explore the island at the own pleasure.

The Bad: Space Jam  https://www.spacejam.com/jam.htm

Back in October 1996, Warner Bros were preparing to release their most ambitious film to date . Space Jam. A live action/Hand Drawn animation hybrid about the fate of the universe resting on a basketball game in which NBA superstar Michael Jordan teams up with rabbit superstar Bugs Bunny. The film cost $80 million dollars so Warner Bros were taking a big financial gamble on this film so they went all out on the marketing and that included a website to help launch the release of the movie. The website did not exactly blow up but Warner Bros executives would not have really cared because the movie was a big success for Warner Bros grossing $90 million in the US and a further $140 million worldwide so the film was a huge success so overtime the website was left alone and in the early 2010's the website was rediscovered and was found to be still active and nearly 24 years after the release of  Space Jam, it is still going. But does it hold up...
 No.

For starters the icons on the website are very very small and there is so much space that has been left without anything look at apart from some unappealing background. The icons were obviously designed for a screen from the 90's that was quite small but on a modern computer, phone or laptop. It looks tiny. This continues when you click on the icons, small images and a couple of sentences that describe what is on the page and it is such a poor design.
There is a navigation tab that allows you to access other pages on the website. However it is only certain pages which means the designs are inconsistent. Some pages have it and others do not. For Example, the Junior Jam section has not got this tab.

For my website, I decided to a website for the company Payne Crop Nutrition. Payne Crop Nutrition are a Norfolk based fertiliser company so for my research i decided to look into agricultural companies websites to see if I draw any inspiration and to see if they are interactive or not.

Bayer Crop Science

Bayer Crop Science has a very interactive website, when you first go onto the homepage you are introduced to the page as shown above and in the background a slideshow of videos showing what they do, these videos include a tractor spraying fertiliser onto the fields, different plants and crops. This has been done to give the viewer an understanding of what goes on at the company.

The website allows fr you to scroll down the page, where we find a tab that allows you to search for specific products as well, this allows you to take control of the website and search for things specific to your needs.  Below that are news articles about fertiliser which offer advice and tips on caring for crops and soil which is incredibly useful for farmers.

Our Products allows for a detailed look at all products including all Fungicide, insecticides,Herbicides and seed treatments. Each product is given a detailed description of how what it does, how to apply it and how its delivered. There are also documents available to download which has more information on that type of fertiliser.

The Bayer Crop website has lots of interactive elements including clickable links to pages, downloadable links and the ability to search for specific things that suit your needs, this allows for the viewer to take control and find everything that suitable for them.
However there are very few images and videos  that are interactive which give demonstrations on how tings work. This is something that could be useful to show viewers how they make it or how to spread it. This is something I am considering for my website

Delta Farming
Delta Farming are a Norfolk based farming and agricultural company who focus on all sides of farming across the county. Their website is not very interactive but there are still some elements

There is an interactive slideshow of images on the delta farming homepage that shows a range of images to do with agriculture such as crops, flowers, owls and machinery at work. Viewers of the website  can scroll through these at their own pace and get a small idea of what this business is about.
The same goes for the gallery page. A selection of images that you can click on and scroll through, giving you an idea of how the business works .

They are the only interactive elements on this website and compared to Bayer, it's a really basic website. I hope to make a website that is much more interactive which includes videos, images and links.

Anglia Farmers:

The Anglia farmers website is the most interactive out of these three websites. The homepage is very interactive there are lots of click- able links, videos and a slideshow of recent articles. This puts the control of the website very much in the viewers hands, giving them to click, watch and view the things that are  suitable for their needs.

This is the most modern site out of the three I have reviewed, it looks much more slick and professional. This will look good for a potential client as they will feel that this company are professional and apply hard work and attention to detail to what they do because of how well done their website is.

There is also a contact page which allows for the viewer to ask any questions or make a complaint that will be answered by the staff or the site administration. This allows for the viewer to have more personal relationship with the company.

I will use a lot of elements from this site. They have videos and images that you can interact with. Lots of clickable tabs and links that take you to different parts of the site.  This website is very interactive and I hope mine will be the same.
